You may already have a bank account, set up direct debits and informed sponsors or Student Finance England for them to credit your bank account. However, it’s worth considering whether your existing account meets your needs as a student.

We know that your financial challenges are greater than ever this year. Rising costs of bills, food and transport are affecting us all.
We recommend having a look at our cost of living information hub for advice, support and information about what the University and the Students' Union is doing to help you save money.
The Student Money team can assist with legal problems, including issues with landlords or employers and help with correspondence and forms. We can meet with you to discuss the issue and signpost you to relevant external support networks, depending on the nature of your query. If your problem needs expert legal support, we will do our best to help you find low cost legal support.

Protecting your deposit
Your landlord must put your deposit in a government-backed tenancy deposit scheme if you rent your home on an assured shorthold tenancy.
